What is Hydergine (ergoloid mesylates)?

Ergoloid mesylates is used to improve cognitive (mental) and self-care functioning in people with symptoms of dementia related to aging or presumed to be related to conditions such as Alzheimer's disease.

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have circulation problems, high blood pressure, heart disease, or a history of mental illness.

Ergoloid mesylates is not a cure for dementia or for any underlying disease that may lead to decreased mental capacity.

Ergoloid mesylates may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What is the most important information I should know about Hydergine (ergoloid mesylates)?

You should not take this medication if you are allergic to ergoloid mesylates, or if you have a psychotic condition or long-standing mental illness.

This medication will not treat dementia related to mental illness, mood disorders, or neurologic disease.

Call your doctor if you have any changes in memory, alertness, mood, appetite, energy level, or ability to care for yourself.

Your family or other caregivers should also be alert to changes in your mood or symptoms. Your doctor will need to check you at regular visits to make sure ergoloid mesylates is the best treatment for your condition. Do not miss any scheduled appointments.

It may take up to 4 weeks of using this medicine before your symptoms improve. For best results, keep using the medication as directed. Talk with your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 3 weeks of treatment.

How should I use Hydergine (ergoloid mesylates)?

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

Ergoloid mesylates is usually taken 3 times per day. Follow your doctor's instructions.

Call your doctor if you have any changes in memory, alertness, mood, appetite, energy level, or ability to care for yourself.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine.

Symptoms of an ergoloid mesylates overdose are not known.

What should I avoid while taking Hydergine (ergoloid mesylates)?

Follow your doctor's instructions about any restrictions on food, beverages, or activity while you are taking ergoloid mesylates.

Hydergine (ergoloid mesylates) side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Less serious side effects such as nausea or upset stomach are more likely to occur, and you may have no side effects at all.
